a father shelters with his seven-year-old daughter while the air-raid sirens run outside. she asks if it was ever this scary for him. his answer isn't a sentence — it's a whole childhood, rebuilt beat by beat with ai, down to the brand of snack in his hand.

the question he can't dodge

a man in his early thirties shelters with his seven-year-old daughter while the sirens run. she asks him straight: was it also this scary when you were little? the storyboard holds on his face for the answer — then carries the audience straight into his eye, one unbroken close-up the boards themselves call a memory-shift in the iris.

the boards title the scene in their own header, no invented tagline: «and will it be like this always?»

storyboard — father and daughter arrive at the shelter, the rabbit toy comes out of the bag, she falls asleep on his shoulder, his eye carries the memory

his answer arrives as six beats, not words

the moment she asks, we're gone — into a montage of his childhood, timed almost to the second. every beat below is scripted, not summarized:

0:00–0:12Hey Arnold flickers on an old crt, the wall clock ticks toward five, down the stairwell into the courtyard.
0:12–0:30square-ball against the neighbors, fishki traded on a bench, chambo and sukhariki from the kiosk, a tram rattling past.
0:31–0:45a packed suitcase, the station, the blue diesel pulling in — then the sea, corn on the cob, the waterslide.
0:46–1:12grandma's: fishing with a stick and string, cherries by the fistful, the potato bucket, a rope swing over the river.
1:12–1:34grandpa's motorcycle down a dirt road, then NFS Underground on the crt, then the balcony and the sunset over the panel blocks.
1:34–1:48the old room, one finger tracing the carpet's pattern, asleep before the scene cuts back.

the boards run twelve frames long — six of them below, in the order they play.

storyboard frames · in order
storyboard — hey arnold on an old tv, the wall clock, down the stairwell to the courtyard
0:00–0:12 — Hey Arnold, the clock, the stairwell down

0:12–0:30 — chambo and sukhariki, the tram
storyboard — fishing with a stick and string, cherries, the potato bucket, babusya digging the garden
0:46–1:12 — grandma's: the river, the cherries, the garden
storyboard — the old bedroom, tracing the carpet's pattern, falling asleep
1:34–1:48 — the old room, the carpet, asleep
03 · built from research

a decade rebuilt before a single frame existed

every prop in the montage came out of a standalone research pass — a reference bible built before the storyboard, mapping what actually filled a Ukrainian childhood in the early 2000s: the cartoons, the games, the snacks, the sounds that snap you back in half a second.

the reference bible · what grounds every frame
Hey Arnold, Sailor Moon, Pokémon
tv & cartoons
Dendy, Sega, NFS Underground
games & tech
yupi, zuko, chambo, 3 korochky
snacks & drinks
fishki, tarzanka, square-ball
yard games
orange ribbons, tents on the square
2004
dial-up screech, the icq duck
sounds that snap you back

first pick: kuzma skryabin's «старі фотографії» ("old photographs") — too tied to classmates and school hallways, the wrong memory.
the fit: sadswit's «пам'ятай свій дім» ("remember your home") — carried the nostalgia without naming it.

Hailuo
image generation. every storyboard still, frame by frame, before a second of video existed.
Seedance 2
multi-shot video. stills turned into motion, shot by shot, matching the boards.
CapCut
edit & sound. pacing, the timestamped montage, sadswit under all of it.
04 · the line

one line, and nothing else needed

the montage ends. we're back in the shelter, his face where we left it. she's still waiting. he answers.

"no — and yours won't always be like this."

ні, і в твоєму так буде не завжди.
